Diopside is a rock-forming pyroxene mineral with a chemical composition of MgCaSi2O6. It occurs in igneous and metamorphic rocks at numerous localities around the world. This specimen is on a white marble matrix. Diopside is colored green by chromium, which is the same element that gives Emerald it’s green hue.
